What is Teach Thurrock?

The Teach Thurrock Primary Partnership working in partnership with Greenwich and Derby

The Teach Thurrock Primary Partnership was formed by 14 schools in the Thurrock area in 2012.  Acknowledging that working together on a shared vision of initial teacher training would produce outstanding teachers of the future, the head teachers devised an innovative training programme under School Direct.

The partnership (The University of Greenwich and Derby University) is delivered by experienced lecturers at the university and by head teachers and outstanding teachers in the partnership's purpose built training room.

The training programme is supported by Dilkes Academy which was awarded the prestigious status of National Teaching School in March 2013. This accreditation is given to outstanding schools to provide a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers. This role involves managing the Teaching School's Initial Teaching in Education Programmes in partnership with primary schools and Greenwich.  The unique research-based teaching approach ensures that our trainees are already aiming towards being the outstanding teachers of the future. On successful completion of the course 100% of our trainees have gained posts in a Thurrock school and 95% have been in the partnership.

There is high quality subject mentoring in the cluster and mentors also come together to share good practice and have support networks which further enhance the quality of the mentoring you receive. Mentors also have opportunities to work with colleagues at Greenwich in order to further refine mentoring skills.

"Teach Thurrock" will enable you to learn deeply about teaching in an urban context and you will be part of the clusters of school’s community from the outset. "Teach Thurrock" is part of the Teaching Agency's School Direct programme whereby schools recruit trainee teachers directly and partner with a Higher Education Institution to devise a bespoke Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme.
