Home Learning - January 2021
As you are aware Benyon Primary School will be closed to all but critical worker children, and so the majority of children will not return to school on Tuesday 5th January 2021, but instead participate in online learning as directed by the Government.
Staff have been busy in school preparing for live lessons that will begin on Tuesday 5th January, alongside other home learning, using the platforms that the children are familiar with (Logins for these can be found in your children’s reading record book). The children will have access to three live lessons a day which have been timetabled for different year groups, so that siblings will not need to access lessons at the same time. Registers will be completed at each of these live lessons, so it is important that your child logs on to Teams at the specified time.
There will be tasks set on Teams via Assignments that your child will be able to complete electronically or print and photograph to upload. Additional tasks will be set on Purple Mash, Reading Pro, Spelling Shed and other platforms appropriate to your child’s age. The completion of all activities set will be monitored, and we are hoping for high levels of engagement, so that your child can pick up their learning quickly on returning to school.
Please use the online chat facility to make the class teacher aware of any difficulties you have with accessing any of the live lessons, or online learning tasks, so they can be resolved as quickly as possible.
Don’t forget that we also communicate through Twitter @BenyonPS and @BenyonPE. We will also be using this App to set additional challenges for the children, so don’t forget to sign up and follow us.
Also download the MyHappymind App which has some useful activities to support your child’s wellbeing. Your child’s class teacher will be directing you to some of these.
January Home Learning Timetable
Welcome to Year 2
Welcome to year 2. This is an exciting year in your child's education. This year's work is all about consolidating the knowledge that we have been learning in key stage one.
We are going to explore a variety of topics throughout the year. Our learning will explore the UK, The Plague, the Great Fire of London and lots in-between. We will also be working on our maths skills using a number of functions to complete sums and expand our mathematical reasoning and numeracy skills.
In reading, there will be a continuation of their phonetic understanding and moving from blending to read words to recognising words by sight. We're also moving towards a bigger focus on grammar, punctuation and spelling, so lots of reading at home will support this. There is a lot of work to be done, but the year is packed full of exciting things to discover before moving on to key stage 2.
Meet the Teacher
Please follow the link below to watch a short video, giving additional information about Year 2. This is in place of the 'Meet the Teacher' meetings that parents are usually invited in for during the autumn term.
Homework will be set on a Friday through the use of Purple mash. Each child will have a login. This will include one reading comprehension task and one maths and/or English activity. Occasionally, topic activities may be set to support learning in class. Spellings are via Spelling Shed.
Children are encouraged to regularly use TTrockstars to promote their understanding of timetables.
If your child does not have access to the internet, please let me know and I can make alternative arrangements for homework.
These website have lots of great information, learning opportunities and of course some games too!
