Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to year 2. This is an exciting year in your child's education. This year's work is all about consolidating the knowledge that we have been learning in key stage one.

We are going to explore a variety of topics throughout the year. Our learning will explore the UK, The Plague, the Great Fire of London and lots in-between. We will also be working on our maths skills using a number of functions to complete sums and expand our mathematical reasoning and numeracy skills.

In reading, there will be a continuation of their phonetic understanding and moving from blending to read words to recognising words by sight. We're also moving towards a bigger focus on grammar, punctuation and spelling, so lots of reading at home will support this. There is a lot of work to be done, but the year is packed full of exciting things to discover before moving on to key stage 2.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday through the use of Purple mash. Each child will have a login. This will include one reading comprehension task and one maths and/or English activity. Occasionally, topic activities may be set to support learning in class. Spellings are handed out on Friday and will be tested the following Friday.

Children are encouraged to regularly use TTrockstars to promote their understanding of timetables. Check TTrockstars for new competitions and challenges.

If your child does not have access to the internet, please let me know and I can make alternative arrangements for homework.
