Year 6
This week has been full of exciting learning opportunities in Year 6!
In Guided Reading, we have started Wonder by R.J. Palacio, a thought-provoking novel that encourages discussions about kindness, acceptance, and resilience. The pupils are already engaging in meaningful conversations about the themes and characters.
In English, our budding authors have written some outstanding horror stories inspired by Hansel and Gretel. They have impressed us with their use of suspense, vivid description, and gripping storytelling—some of their twists were truly chilling!
In Science, we have been investigating evolution through hands-on experiments exploring how duck beaks have adapted to different environments. Pupils tested different "beak" types to understand how natural selection works in action.
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and hard work—well done, Year 6!
In English, pupils have been developing their journalistic skills by writing newspaper reports inspired by Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman. They explored how to structure news articles, using formal language, quotes, and factual reporting to bring their stories to life. The reports have been outstanding!
Our young scientists investigated refraction through hands-on experiments. Using water and light sources, they observed how light bends when it passes through different materials, deepening their understanding of optics and real-world applications.
Pupils took part in an Online Safety Talk, where they learned about staying safe in the digital world. Topics included cyberbullying, online privacy, and responsible internet use, empowering them to make informed decisions when navigating the online space.
It has been a fantastic week of learning, filled with curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking!

In Science, students explored the fascinating world of light through hands-on experiments using periscopes, enhancing their understanding of reflection and angles.
Careers Day was a standout event, where inspiring guest speakers shared insights into their professions. Our students showed their gratitude by writing heartfelt letters to thank these visitors for their time and inspiration.
In Music, the focus has been on listening and analysis. The magical music of Harry Potter provided a wonderful soundtrack for our lessons, allowing students to sharpen their auditory skills and explore how music evokes emotions and enhances storytelling.

It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the break, full of energy and enthusiasm for the term ahead! This week, we enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Ragged School Museum, where the children stepped back in time to experience Victorian school life. In Art, the children explored perspective drawing inspired by L.S. Lowry, creating some stunning pieces. The children have also begun writing recounts about Mount Vesuvius, vividly bringing to life the dramatic eruption and its impact on Pompeii. It’s shaping up to be an exciting term!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for the Year 5 and 6 production of A Christmas Carol. Your presence and support made the event truly special for the children, who worked incredibly hard to bring this classic tale to life.
From the brilliant acting to the wonderful singing and set design, the pupils shone on stage, and it was fantastic to see their efforts celebrated by such a warm and appreciative audience.
Thank you once again for being a part of this memorable experience. We wish you a joyful and peaceful holiday season!
Our Year 6 pupils had the exciting opportunity to attend a talk with engineers from Ford, focusing on the fascinating topic of electric cars. The pupils were captivated as they learned about the innovative technology behind electric vehicles, the importance of sustainability, and the future of transportation.
The session sparked plenty of curiosity, with pupils asking insightful questions and engaging in discussions about how electric cars can help protect the environment. A big thank you to the Ford team for inspiring our pupils and giving them a glimpse into the world of engineering and innovation!

In English, we’ve been thoroughly enjoying Another Twist in the Tale by Catherine Bruton. The children have been captivated by the twists and turns of this engaging story, sparking lively discussions about its themes and characters.
In Maths, pupils are making fantastic progress in mastering written methods for long multiplication and long division. Their confidence is growing as they tackle increasingly complex problems, showcasing their perseverance and problem-solving skills.
As part of our Geography unit on Mexico, the children wrote letters to their friends, sharing fascinating facts about the country’s physical and human features. From towering mountains to bustling cities, their letters were full of enthusiasm and detail, demonstrating their growing understanding of this vibrant country.

This week, Year 6 has been busy with a range of engaging activities across subjects. In Art, pupils have been exploring Mexican culture by designing their own colorful piñatas, learning about the traditions and creativity behind these vibrant decorations. In English, they’ve been diving into suspense stories, identifying techniques to create tension and keep readers on the edge of their seats.
In Science, students have been hands-on with electricity, making and comparing circuits to understand how they work. Meanwhile, in Geography, they’ve been exploring Mexico’s resources, learning where various materials and products originate in this fascinating country.
A major highlight was our recent trip to the Barbican for a music performance, where students experienced live music in a world-class venue, enhancing their appreciation for the Arts. It’s been a fantastic week of creativity, exploration, and learning!
WC 7th of October
As we come to the end of another busy term, we'd like to share some of the exciting learning experiences Year 6 have enjoyed!
We had a fantastic Tudor Day, where the students stepped back in time and enjoyed a feast as part of their immersive history project. They embraced the spirit of the era, learning about life in Tudor times through fun and engaging activities.
In Science, the class participated in an exercise circuit to explore how physical activity affects the heart. They measured their pulse rates before and after the workout, demonstrating their growing understanding of how the circulatory system works.
We also completed our reading of the poignant book, Private Peaceful, which led to thoughtful discussions on the themes of loyalty and brotherhood. The students reflected deeply on the characters' experiences and the emotional impact of the story.
As part of our focus on writing, the students produced impressive non-chronological reports on the eye, showing a solid grasp of how this important organ functions.
We are proud of all their hard work and achievements this term and wish everyone a restful and well-deserved break! We look forward to the exciting challenges next term will bring.

Year 6 has been busy with a range of exciting and educational activities! In History, the class engaged in a lively debate about Bloody Mary, exploring whether her legacy was justified. Over in Art, students have started working on intricate mosaics, bringing their creativity to life.
In English, the children have been captivated by Anne Frank's Diary, which has sparked deep discussions and insights into life during Nazi Germany. Their Science lessons have been equally thrilling, with hands-on blood experiments that have helped them explore the circulatory system in a fun and fascinating way.

We’ve delved into the fascinating world of the Tudors, explored the human heart and its various parts, and had thought-provoking discussions about our role models, with some excellent responses from the students. A quick reminder that our P.E. days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so please ensure your child comes prepared on those days.

We expect year 6 to read a book of choice each evening. They then add a comment or summary to the class forms - this can be found in the window of the classroom. This acts as a reading diary.
